History

Birju Maharaj Parampara, a register society dedicated to the spread of Kathak dance was found in the year 2003, by Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj ( elder son of the legendary Kathak maestro, Padam Vibhushan Late Sri Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji) and his wife Smt. Ruby Mishra.

Parampara nurtures its disciples in the true Guru –Shishya Parampara. The institute is affiliated to Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. The following highly distinguished artistes have a kind support to serve as Birju Maharaj Parampara's Patrons: Smt. Girja Devi, Pt. Rajan Mishra, Pt. Sajan Mishra, Pt. Kumar Bose, Sh. Ismail Darbar, Pt. Debu Choudhury, Bhajan Samrat Sri Anoop Jalota.

Values

The Parampara is an institution committed to the preservation and dissemination of traditional Indian dance, Kathak. The insitute has a reputation for excellence in the field of Kathak. The main objective of Parampara is to train proficient dancers committed to pursuing the art as profession. To attain this objective the training courses are designed with great attention and in manner to prepare artises of highest professional standards. Besides, the Parampara has the dedicated service of a team of highly qualified and eminent masters as its faculty member.

Over the years Parampara has been wholly involved to promote this North Indian classical Dance style through its innovative and promotional activities. Festivals and workshops are organised in the Parampara through out the year involving Kathak artistes from all over India.
